The STUDENT EDITION of MATHLETES

Q. Must we have all grades 2 to 6
classes participate or can we choose the grades we would like?

A. MATHLETES has programming for any
combination of grades 2 to 6. Some schools choose to make it a junior event
while others like to have all grades 3 to 6 students involved. It is entirely
up to you but if your gym can hold all your grade 3 to 6 students it is your
best VALUE and the most FUN!

Q.
How does a
MATHLETES event fit into our school
time table?

A.
The
MATHLETES team arrives ONE HOUR before your entry bell to set
up the gym. Following morning announcements the intermediates selected to be
“coaches” for the day come to the gym for 40 minutes of leadership training.  Once intermediates are trained participants
are called to the gym. We aim to stay within your bell times for breaks with
the event ending ONE HOUR before
your dismissal bell.

Q.  Do participants have to be put into groups by their teachers?

A. MATHLETES provides name badges for all
participants which divide students randomly into 4 teams. The goal is for
students to work with those they might not regularly have an opportunity to
work with. If teachers do not want certain students together that can be
accommodated.

Q.  What is expected of the school for set up and preparation?

A.  Once you have provided
the
MATHLETES team with your student count for each
participating grade you will be provided with a very clear & brief  TO DO LIST  outlining the number of TABLES, CHARIS and intermediates or grade 6 students required to be leaders for the day. It is MANDATORY that all tables and chairs be on the gym floor ONE HOUR before bell time to enable our team to set up the gym.  MATHLETES
brings all AV & math materials.

Q.
What if we do not have intermediates at our school to coach?

A.
Many
junior schools invite one intermediate class from their feeder school to be visiting
coaches for the day, others have grades 2 to 5 participate and have grade 6 students take on the leadership role
and some schools have parents or community leaders coach.

Q.  Can parents attend?

A.  MATHLETES encourages parents to drop in though
out the day. We have a parent invite that can be sent home letting parents know
about the event and encouraging them to drop by.
